At the age of 26, the charismatic performance stallion has taken his leave. Filled with sadness, we bid farewell to one of the flagship stallions of the Haras Nationaux and then France Haras.
One of the latest performers to take the HN brand to the highest sporting level, LUCCIANNO was a springboard for Nicolas DELMOTTE on the international scene. The young rider was already a top performer in young rider events with another HN stallion – BOLERO DE BRECEY – and then with his DISCRETE IV, with whom he won his first French Championship title. But it was with LUCCIANNO that he wore the blue jacket for the first time at 5* level… And with style, as their first attempt at the CSIO 5* in Lisbon was perfectly transformed with victory in the Grand Prix! This was followed by numerous performances for the French flag, including top positions in the Nations Cups in Rome, St Gallen and Rotterdam… Born to Bruno CHASSAING, the stallion was trained by the northern French rider from the age of 4 until his last ride in Montpellier in 2011. Together, the pair amassed over €300,000 in winnings during their career.
Alongside a flourishing sporting career, LUCCIANNO has been one of the Haras’ most successful stallions. Available in fresh semen alongside his sporting career, he served over 100 mares for 6 consecutive years. His production proved as competitive as he was, with almost a quarter of his offspring indexed at over 120 in show jumping and CCE. However, it is abroad that his best offspring have made their mark. To name but a few, we salute the performances of CHANEL DU CALVAIRE, Canadian vice-champion and GP 5* winner with François LAMONTAGNE; UNIVERS DU VINNEBUS, European Young Riders team vice-champion with Zoe CONTER; LUCHINO, several times placed in CSI 5* with Sergio ALVAREZ MOYA…
Semi-retired, he left the show ring in 2011 to devote himself fully to stallions in 2012. Entrusted to France Etalons in 2015 following the IFCE’s call for tenders, he has continued to delight numerous breeding stations in France. We thank each and every person who crossed the path of this valiant performer during his different lives. We have a special thought for Dr. V. Anne Josson and the team at the Lyon Veterinary School, who pampered him over the last 4 years and with whom he has been enjoying full retirement since last year!
